Known for his virtuoso performances and innovative style, Wolff and his trio will play selections from his first new cd in four years, “Memoir,” recently released on Sunnyside Records. Both Mednard and Allison are featured with Wolff on the new recording. Together, the group will also revisit and perform some of Wolff’s favorite original compositions and jazz standards. Best known in pop culture for his longtime role as the musical director and bandleader on Arsenio Hall’s award-winning TV talk show, Wolff has played with a Who’s Who of jazz legends, including Latin Jazz great Cal Tjader, Sonny Rollins, Christian McBride, Cannonball Adderley, Nancy Wilson, the Count Basie Orchestra, Herbie Hancock, Sheila E., and more
“Memoir” follows the release of Wolff’s recent Amazon best-selling autobiography, “On That Note: A Memoir of Jazz, Tics and Survival,” detailing his musical career and roots, including his miraculous triumph over the four year battle with a rare form of misdiagnosed cancer that had him at death’s door and a lifelong struggle with Tourette’s Syndrome. The record is a musical celebration of survival that continues to move his music forward with new interpretations and fresh perspectives.
“I wanted every note on this cd to mean something emotionally and to reflect the journey of my experiences.” states Wolf
Wolff has conducted over 25 major orchestras around the world, and has also been a member of the groups Wolff and Clark Expedition and Impure Thoughts. He has won many accolades during his long-running career, and is a recipient of the BMI Music Award, Japan’s Golden Disc Award, (“Jumpstart with Tony Williams and Christian McBride,) and the Hamptons International Film Festival’s award for Best Film Score. ##
