The Seymour Library again hosts the historian John Cilio. Mr. Cilio will detail in a free program the life and tiimes of the local historian John Warner Barber. Mr. Barber was an early historian and engraver who worked before photography was invented.
Mr. Barber was one of Connecticut's early historians & illustrated over 60 books and would produce hundreds of engravings chronicling American towns and scenes. John Warner Barber, born in Windsor and living most of his life in New Haven, had his illustrations grace some of the most sucessful books published during the 1800s. His popular 1837 book "Connecticut Historical Collections" highlights the state's history with each town receiving stories and facts gleaned from local historian of the time with most entries featuring detailed accurate town drawings.
