The Naugatuck Valley Genealogy Club will meet at the Prospect Public Library, 17 Center Street, Prospect, and on Zoom on Saturday, March 8, at 10:30 a.m. Following a brief business meeting, Pam Vestal will present the second part of “What the Heck Does That Say? The Challenge of Difficult Handwriting” interactive workshop. One of the biggest hurdles to overcome in genealogy is the illegible handwriting in our ancestors' records. Whether you struggle to navigate colonial penmanship that does not even look like English or wrestle with contemporary documents that are poorly written, a few good strategies can make all the difference. She will look at more than twenty techniques to help you figure out what the chicken scratches on the page say as well as what the style of writing might reveal about our ancestors. It was not necessary to see Part1 to benefit from Part 2.
Pam Vestal is a professional genealogist and speaker who turned her focus to her longtime love of genealogy after a 20-year writing career. Her articles have appeared in the National Genealogical Society Magazine and The Association of Professional Genealogists Quarterly, and her lectures take her from coast to coast. Pam specializes in conducting genealogical research and then transforming that information into illustrated stories that even non-genealogists can enjoy.
The public is invited and there is no charge for the meeting. Members and guests may attend in-person at the Prospect Library. Also, members will receive Zoom invitations and non-members can request an invitation by emailing their full name, address, telephone number and email address to [email protected] no later than March 6.
