Home Away From Homeschool Open House

Mattatuck Museum is excited to offer its “Home Away from Homeschool” program, designed to provide homeschooling families with a flexible and unique opportunity to experience high-quality, curriculum-based lessons and creative activities while exploring art and history in a creative museum setting. We invite homeschool families to our Open House on Wednesday, January 22 from 1 to 2:30 PM, where we’ll offer a special “Adventure in Art History” preview class, a gallery tour showcasing the museum’s exhibitions, and the opportunity to learn more about the exciting opportunities available through our homeschool programs and see samples of activities we offer. Open Registration for Individual Families Beginning in January, registration will open for individual families during the first and last weeks of the month. These immersive classes will feature art lessons taught by experienced instructors, with activities including printmaking, drawing, and more in a supportive atmosphere. The program provides a supportive, social environment where students can engage in creative activities together, form friendships, explore artistic techniques, and collaborate in the museum’s educational spaces. Private Bookings for Co-ops In the middle weeks of each month, the program will be open to private bookings for homeschooling co-ops. This provides homeschool groups with the opportunity to tailor their experience to their specific interests and needs, with lessons and activities that can be customized to fit the group’s educational focus. Benefits of Home Away From Homeschool The lessons are designed to align with core curriculum and state standards, allowing students to explore various artistic techniques while enhancing their understanding of other subjects and will encourage the children to engage in a fun way. In addition to educational activities, socialization is a key aspect of the program. Students will have the chance to interact with peers and foster collaboration, creativity, and friendships in a welcoming and inclusive environment. This is an invaluable opportunity for homeschool students to connect with others while exploring art and history in a dynamic, hands-on setting. Don’t miss this opportunity for your homeschooler to experience the museum in a fun, educational, and creative way!
