Join us for an inspiring evening celebrating Connecticut River history and heritage, featuring a special presentation by Connecticut historian Dr. Frank Mitchell.
🎤 Guest Speaker: Dr. Frank Mitchell
“Radiance from the Waters: Late 19th-Century Shipboard Performances”
Dr. Mitchell, Curatorial Adviser for the Toni N. and Wendell C. Harp Historical Museum and Director Emeritus of The Amistad Center for Art & Culture, will highlight the remarkable story of the Hickman Jubilee Singers. This African-American a cappella ensemble captivated audiences with powerful spirituals and rhythmic performances aboard steamboats traveling the Connecticut River in the late 1800s—a legacy that traces back to the original Fisk University Jubilee Singers of 1871.
