About Edgar Meyer:
Hailed by The New Yorker as “...the most remarkable virtuoso in the relatively un-chronicled history of his instrument,” Edgar Meyer’s unparalleled technique and musicianship in combination with his gift for composition have brought him to the fore, where he is appreciated by a vast, varied audience.
The seven-time Grammy-winning double bassist and composer has received universal acclaim for a career that has seamlessly crossed genres—from classical, to bluegrass, to jazz—pairing him with some of the foremost musicians of our time. His collaborators have included Joshua Bell, Hilary Hahn, Yo-Yo Ma, Tessa Lark, Jerry Douglas, Béla Fleck, Zakir Hussain, Sam Bush, Stuart Duncan, Chris Thile, Mike Marshall, Mark O’Connor, Christian McBride, and Emanuel Ax. Meyer was most recently honored with two Grammy Awards in 2024—for Best Global Music Performance and Best Contemporary Instrumental Album—through his collaboration with Bela Fleck and Zakir Hussain, featuring Rakesh Chaurasia.
Edgar Meyer grew up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where he learned to play the double bass from his father, Edgar Meyer Sr., who directed the string orchestra program for the local public school system. He later went on to complete a bachelor of music at the Indiana University School of Music, where he studied with Stuart Sankey.
About Chris Potter:
A world-class soloist, accomplished composer and formidable bandleader, saxophonist Chris Potter has emerged as a leading light of his generation. DownBeat called him “one of the most studied (and copied) saxophonists on the planet” while Jazz Times identified him as “a figure of international renown.”
A potent improvisor and the youngest musician ever to win Denmark’s Jazzpar Prize, Potter’s impressive discography includes 15 albums as a leader and sideman appearances on over 100 albums. He was nominated for a Grammy Award for his solo work on “In Vogue,” a track from Joanne Brackeen’s 1999 album, Pink Elephant Magic, and was prominently featured on Steely Dan’s Grammy-winning album from 2000, Two Against Nature. He has performed or recorded with many of the leading names in jazz, including Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland, John Scofield, the Mingus Big Band, Jim Hall, Paul Motian, Dave Douglas, Ray Brown, and many others.
Chris Potter has remained committed to his art since his formative years. Born in Chicago, his family moved to Columbia, South Carolina when he was a young child. There, he started playing guitar and piano before taking up the alto saxophone at age 10, playing his first gig at 13. At age 18, Potter moved to New York to study at the New School and Manhattan School of Music, while also immersing himself in New York’s jazz scene and beginning his lifelong path as a professional musician.
