The Art of Handbells: Twin Cities Bronze Marks 25 Years with Regional Tour and National Spotlight
Twin Cities Bronze (TCB) is a professional handbell choir based out of Eagan, Minnesota. TCB uniquely performs without a conductor and is comprised of 13 annually auditioned ringers. This ensemble is known for performing dynamic programs, featuring music by living, working composers, as well as providing educational workshops and bi-annual tours all over the nation. This year marks Twin Cities Bronze’s 25th Anniversary, which the ensemble celebrates with a special commission, Icefall, by handbell composer Mitchell Eithun, and a regional tour. The tour, entitled Agua Nocturna: a journey of light, shadow, and sound, will take the ensemble to a variety of venues on their way down to the Handbell Ringers of America’s national conference, Pinnacle.
TCB is one of ten competitively selected ensembles invited to perform at Pinnacle. The 3-day event in Wichita, Kansas, includes an array of performances and workshops. Twin Cities Bronze will be showcased on Friday, July 11, at the Century II Performing Arts & Convention Center.
Treat yourself to one of TCB’s concerts as part of their tour. You’ll enjoy a variety of exciting pieces that you may not otherwise hear; plus, you’ll have a chance to ask ensemble members questions. Performances are free to attend, with donations to the Twin Cities Bronze encouraged.
The first concert is Tuesday, July 8 at 1:30 pm, at the beautiful Des Moines Art Center in Des Moines, Iowa. The sound of handbells will soar in the acoustically rich I. M. Pei building. Registration is required at www.desmoinesartcenter.org. The next exciting performance will be Wednesday, July 9 at 7 pm, at Grace Lutheran Church in Lincoln, NE. Churches often have handbell choirs, and we invite local ringers to attend. Finally, Twin Cities Bronze will host a Homecoming Concert, which will be held Sunday, July 13 at 3pm, at Mount Calvary Church in Eagan, MN.
