When 13 GOING ON 30 was released over 20 years ago(!), I was overjoyed at the fact that Hollywood had finally decided to make BIG for girls. Don't get me wrong, it was awesome to watch Tom Hanks spend his paycheck on video games and a penthouse with a trampoline, but now it was a gal's turn to live the dream, and Jennifer Garner did not disappoint. This film features the greatest fantasies of a 13-year-old girl*: a makeover montage in a gigantic closet, a high-power job working at a fashion magazine, a massive slumber party, and, of course, a totally cute guy.
But 13 GOING ON 30 isn't just a fun premise, it's a heartfelt and hilarious coming-of-age story. The cast is top-notch, with Garner perfectly embodying her inner teen, Judy Greer serving up some major sass (like she does), and Mark Ruffalo being as foxy and charming as he's ever been. This delightful cinematic concoction is better than a pack of Razzles, so join us and experience the thrill of being 30, flirty, and thriving.
