Nature vs. Machines

Modern humans have lived on Earth for about 300,000 years. In that time, we as a species, have developed countless ways to make life easier and the world smaller. Transportation, communication, automation and computation have all dramatically advanced and continue to do so. Despite our enormous footprint, mother nature has been with us the entire way. How does our “need” for changing technology effect the natural world? As one form of technology becomes obsolete, where does it go? And is it ever really gone? The juxtaposition of nature and machine is at the heart of this exhibit, — not the new, shiny technology that we’re using now, but the old technology that nobody needs or wants. By combining discordant elements, bound together in a layered tapestry of letters, numbers, pictures and paint, this collection of artwork evokes feelings of nostalgia, decay and rebirth.
