In this 4-week computer class, participants will learn computer, Internet, search tool, and basic email concepts. Topics include: using a mouse, opening and closing windows, going to websites, navigating a website, using the online Library catalog, using google.com, as well as sending, replying to, and deleting emails.
Week 1 - July 9: Intro to Computers
Learn basic computer terminology.
Understand the mouse and its functions.
Perform basic computer tasks such as opening, closing, and scrolling in windows.
Familiarize yourself with a keyboard.
Gain an understanding of the various ways to shut down a computer.
Week 2 - July 16: Internet Basics
Learn about the Internet and the World Wide Web and become familiar with terminology.
Master basic skills to effectively access and navigate websites.
Explore the Oak Creek Public Library’s website and access information.
Explore the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel website and access information.
Access an online map through Google Maps and get directions.
Week 3 - July 23: Intro to Internet Search Tools
Locate library materials using CountyCat, the online Milwaukee County Library system catalog
Become familiar with CountyCat features for limiting searches and reserving library materials.
Perform queries in search engines and learn effective strategies for obtaining more accurate search results.
Week 4 - July 30: Email Basics
Learn about email and other forms of online communication.
Compose, send, and reply to messages.
Learn how to upload and open attachments.
Sign in and out of the email account.
