Trio de Chats Noirs - Songs and Dances

Experience an afternoon of captivating chamber music as Trio de Chats Noirs takes the stage at Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at 4:00 PM. This dynamic ensemble—featuring Rachel Velvikis (horn), Mark Fry (bass trombone/euphonium), and guest pianist Christopher Powell—brings an exciting program that blends classical elegance with jazz-inspired charm. The performance will include a vibrant selection of works, from the graceful Waltz from Jazz Suite No. 2 by Dmitri Shostakovich to the expressive Horn Songs by Johannes Brahms (arr. Reynolds). Audiences will also enjoy Alec Wilder’s Suite No. 1 for Horn, Bass Trombone, and Piano, a work infused with jazz influences and lyrical beauty. Following a brief intermission, the concert continues with a selection from J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Suite, performed by horn and bass trombone. Gary Kulesha’s Sonata for Horn, Tuba, and Piano brings a bold and contemporary contrast, leading into the timeless charm of Gershwin’s "Someone to Watch Over Me."
