Taste Rubber is a free jazz/free improv group whose members comprise a veritable who’s who list of Midwestern avant garde luminaries, ranging from legendary experimental rock group U.S. Maple to theatrical art-rock ensemble Lovely Little Girls, as well as Chicago math rock/no wave mainstays Pet Peeves, and many other remarkable groups.
Taste Rubber is made up of guitarist Jeff Goulet, Lance Marvesk on bass, Sam Robinson on Kurzweil synthesizer, and Mark Shippy on guitar.
Their sound draws upon threads from their other groups, weaving sour, acerbic synth washes, deconstructed shards of rock music, and experimental approaches to performance that accumulate to produce a murky, continually evolving sound that is at once alien, enveloping, and enthralling.
Filling out the evening will be support from local free improv bands Swim Two Birds and Waterspouts.
