The Choral Arts Society's Honoring 250 Years of America Concert

Our 40th Season opener celebrates the Choral Arts Society voices elevated by brass and percussion, Guest Artist-In-Residence and Poet Laureate of Massachusetts Regie Gibson, recitation by Guest Young Artists from local high schools, and a 30th Anniversary performance of Glenn Burleigh’s Lamentation and Celebration. This historical program will include Smith’s “The Star-Spangled Banner,” Walker’s “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere,” excerpts from Thompson’s Testament of Freedom, Paulus’ “Hymn for America,” and Johnson’s “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” In recognition of the 25th Anniversary of 9/11, the CAS will be honoring local first responders by inviting them to join us in singing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” CAS Artistic Director, James Schatzman notes: “Opening our 40th season with celebrated artist Regie Gibson promises to be an unforgettable experience for the chorus, our audience, and the community. His involvement in multiple community events will offer meaningful opportunities to discover and engage with the extraordinary talent and artistry of this acclaimed poet.” Included with Admission is a pre-concert event from 5:45-6:15PM: "Forging Beyond Iambic Pentameter," a discussion with CAS Guest Artist-In-Residence Massachusetts Poet Laureate Regie Gibson. All concert attendees are welcome. Tickets: Adult/Senior $25, Student $15. Advance tickets are available at Personal Touch by Julie Florist in Racine – 5445 Spring Street – with cash or check or online at www.choralartsonline.org.
