Fans of Ross Hightower’s Spirit Song novels will be excited to learn the battle for the soul of Argren will continue with the release of another novel at Argren Faire, Riverwest’s Ren Faire.
The inaugural Argren Faire was a huge event, with well over 2500 revelers in attendance. According to Deb Heim, event organizer and fantasy author, “We are excited to partner again with our friends at Black Husky Brewing. If you have met brewmaster Tim Eichinger you know he loves to host weird events, and last year’s Argren Faire was no exception. It was Tim’s idea to turn the dragon puppet parade into a ‘drag’ parade, with a King and Queen in medieval drag. Tim also played host to the ‘Agmar Feats of Strength’ event, which was a huge hit. Our play partners Deeplight LARP will again be involved, this time as cosplayers who will provide clues to a scavenger hunt based on the lore of Argren”.
“The books follow the adventures of the peaceful Alle’oss people of Argren who are forced to defend their friends and families against the oppressive Vollen Empire. Their spirit is captured in a simple Alle’oss phrase – ‘Ērtsi kalaola’ - ‘life’s colors’, which means you must paint your life joyfully with whatever colors you have. The goal of Argren Faire is to capture that spirit. We want to create an interactive, community experience for our friends and found family in Riverwest, as well as fans and soon-to-be fans of the books. We invite anyone who loves a good Ren Faire!”
The event will again kick off with a “drag” parade, this time led by “spirits” from the World of Argren. Folks are encouraged to dress in their best medieval drag. Then one lucky parade participant will be chosen to tap the firkin of Alle’oss ale, followed by the “Agmar Feats of Strength” competition, as well as a beard contest. A costume contest based on characters from the book will be another new event. Participants will learn about Deeplight LARP and test their combat skills against their friends and other attendees. We are also expecting mermaids with the Wisconsin Merpod to host a lagoon. Participants can meet fantasy and historical fiction authors signing their books, browse vendors booths and grab a bite to eat from various food trucks, as well as enjoy a Black Husky brew or two.
