Snow and bells to highlight December concert
Doctor, lawyer, Indian chief, so the old song goes. There aren’t any Indian chiefs in the Scottsdale Concert Band, but its membership does include a doctor and a lawyer, as well as a teacher, pharmacist, social worker, claim specialist, engineer, marketing professional, music therapist, flight attendant, judge, college professor, and more.
This truly “community band,” which will soon celebrate its 50th anniversary, will present a free holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at the Scottsdale Community College Performing Arts Center.
On the program will be “The Snowman,” with narration by Frank Kovac; “A Most Wonderful Christmas”; “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”; “O Holy Night”; and “Fanfare for the Festival of Lights.”
Joining the band will be the Scottsdale Community College Concert Choir, directed by Dr. Kira Zeeman Rugen.
The Scottsdale Concert Band is directed by Dr. Jeff Quamo. The band is the winner of the Sudler Silver Scroll Award, the most prestigious award for community concert bands in North America. The award is sponsored by the John Philip Sousa Foundation.
The band is sponsored by Scottsdale Community College. For more information, call Quamo at 585-749-8583.
