“The Stories They Didn’t Tell Us – Nina’s Story,” an award-winning short documentary produced by ASU College of Integrative Sciences and Arts alumna Cindy Lee (’23 MA in liberal studies), explores the life of Nina Newell, a Vietnamese woman who came to the U.S. as a refugee following the Fall of Saigon 50 years ago. In the documentary, her children discover why they knew so little about their mother's past when she broke her silence after decades. Join us for this powerful evening of storytelling and reflection during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
The evening begins with a light reception at The Garden Commons at ASU’s Polytechnic campus to meet filmmaker Cindy Lee and Nina Newell. After the reception, a screening of “Nina’s Story,” will take place at Aravaipa Auditorium followed by a panel discussion featuring Cindy Lee, Nina Newell, ASU Teaching Professor Valerie Adams from the School of Applied Sciences and Arts in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts, and Assistant Teaching Professor An Sakach from ASU’s School of International Letters and Cultures.
