The National Civil Rights Museum will host a national book launch event on Thursday, February 20, celebrating the release of Nonviolent: A Memoir of Resistance, Agitation, and Love, the posthumous memoir of Reverend James Lawson Jr., co-authored with journalist Emily Yellin. The evening will feature Yellin alongside Rev. Lawson’s eldest son, John Lawson, in a powerful remembrance of one of the Civil Rights Movement’s most influential yet often underrecognized architects. A book signing will follow the program.
This special evening will bring together the children of Rev. Lawson's colleagues, including descendants of the Memphis sanitation workers from the 1968 strike who brought Dr. King to Memphis. Moderated by Carol Jenkins, former WNBC-TV anchor and niece of civil rights icon A.G. Gaston, the program will include music from the Movement, a reception, book signing, and the opportunity to view the museum’s Bayard Rustin exhibition.
