ArtsAlive (grant-funded) Music Event! The Swing Era: Jazz in the 1930's
The second part of the multi part performance/lecture series, The History and Evolution of Jazz in the 20th Century Through Performance, this session will focus on the big band era and jazz composers, musicians and orchestras of the 1930's swing period. Special attention will be paid to the commercialization and growing popularity of Jazz through dance halls and the advent of the radio as well as the segregation and discrimination that existed in the industry that often paralleled society.
