On March 28 & 29, in the outstanding acoustics of UW-Madison's Hamel Music Center, Madison Bach Musicians will present two complete performances of one of Bach's crowning works, Mass in B minor (BWV 232). For these MBM concerts, internationally acclaimed conductor, Andrew Megill, from Northwestern University, will lead a period-instrument orchestra—replete with gut strings (and Baroque bows), Baroque oboes and oboes d'amore, Baroque bassoons, Baroque flutes, Baroque trumpets, goatskin timpani, natural horn, and chamber organ—plus an outstanding 14-member vocal ensemble.
Before each performance, MBM Artistic Director Trevor Stephenson will give a 30-minute lecture discussing the period instruments, Bach's process in creating the Mass in B minor, and the performance history of this transcendent masterpiece.
