Half-Hour History: Dating Your Historic Family Photographs presented by historian Arlo Paust
The Mount Horeb Area Historical Society’s Half-Hour History program is a once-a-month midday speaker series featuring engaging presentations on local and regional history. These FREE programs are open to all and take place at the Driftless Historium at 1:00 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month.
Join us for the next installment in this series, “Dating Your Historic Family Photographs” presented by historian Arlo Paust on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Do you have family photographs stashed in a drawer or box at home, perhaps passed down from a relative or rescued from a family estate—but you don’t know who the people are or when the photos were taken? Arlo will provide tips and strategies to help date and identify these mystery photos. Attendees are encouraged to bring photos that they may have questions about or just want to share with fellow history enthusiasts.
Paust grew up in York Township, Wisconsin, but lived other places, including New York City, before an interest in his family’s history brought him back home. A librarian and local historian, Paust’s research focuses on Norwegian American genealogy. He has volunteered with the Mount Horeb Area Historical Society for eight years, identifying photographs and supporting research on several exhibits, including “History in 3D: A Stereoview Sensation.” A skilled graphic designer, Paust also serves as editor of the popular MHAHS newsletter, Past Times.
The Mount Horeb Area Historical Society operates the Driftless Historium and was founded in 1975 to collect, preserve, and share the stories of southwestern Dane County.
