Mount Wilson Observatory Presents: Cosmic Art Night featuring “Of Sea and Sky”

Mount Wilson Observatory’s Arts @ the Observatory, presents COSMIC ART NIGHT, featuring the exhibit “Of Sea and Sky,” paired with observing the night sky, taking place on Sunday, September 22, 2024. The event runs from 7:00pm to 12:00am. The night will feature artists Rebeca Méndez and Stephen Nowlin, discussing their current exhibit at the Observatory and their works at the intersection of science and art. Following the discussion, there will be an evening observation session using MWO’s historic 100-inch telescope to experience the art the cosmos creates. Tickets are priced at $200 and are available on Mount Wilson Observatory’s website: https://mtwilson.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/mtwilson/event.jsp?event=18009& Advance purchases are highly recommended. OF SEA AND SKY Showing in the upper-level of the 100-inch telescope dome, Rebeca Méndez and Stephen Nowlin’s “Of Sea and Sky” examines human-to-nature relationships against the backdrop of space cosmology and earth ecology. The exhibition includes an immersive video piece by Méndez projected on a 25-foot diameter screen, and large-scale print works by Nowlin mounted along the dome’s perimeter encircling the massive 100-inch telescope. In their thematically related practices, both Méndez and Nowlin create art that lives in the intersections of the poetic and scientific.
