POETRY PEACE & PIZZA @ DELICIOUS PIZZA
After a year from LA, since last October during my spoken word album the truth. the way. the life. Grammy Awards Contender campaign. I'll be back! I love LA, and I will always love my seventeen-years of living there. However, I am in love with my hometown Chicago, the rudiment of my creative writing journey. I had to move back to Chicago when the city's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) emailed me on January 6, 2023, asking me to apply for Chicago's Inaugural Poet Laureate position. I became a Nominee though I was not I appointed; I was dissapointed. Nonetheless, I decided to replant my literary roots in Chicago. As I had been pitching the idea and cultural position to the Mayor's office in seeking to become Poet Laureate of Chicago since 1997. Wherein, I went to study abroad in a Master's of Literature Program in Oxford, England. Writing poetry empowered me to write, meet and forgive my younger brother, Lemont's killers. I wrote and released my debut book, an anthology of poetry entitled n'nocent RAGE on January 11, 1999 seven years after Lemont sacrificed his life to save his friend's life. Writing poetry saved my life!!!
