Solidify a favorite memory through art! Faith Ringgold (born October 8, 1930, New York, New York, U.S.—died April 13, 2024, Englewood, New Jersey) was an African American artist and author who became famous for innovative quilted narrations that communicate her political beliefs. Ringgold's diverse works evolved from paintings reflecting the civil rights movement, such as her American People series in the 1960s, to soft sculptures and masks in the 1970s. In the 1980s, she began creating her renowned "story quilts," narrative artworks combining painted images and original stories rooted in African American history. We will be in the Lift, the Tween hangout area, located by the elevator to the Loft in the Children's Department of Laman Library. No registration required. All supplies provided.
