During this Real Talk, we will highlight the contributions of black women in STEM, discuss the need for equity in these fields, and list ways we can remain hopeful and push for change.
Real Talk - a monthly meetup to discuss difficult, contemporary, and complex issues.
Teens are invited to the Loft each month to enjoy a quick talk on the month's topic, before the floor opens for questions and discussion.
We want to be vulnerable, well researched, and real with you about what's going on in your world. We also want you to feel at ease to ask difficult questions, without fear of censorship.
To maintain the safety and assurance required for this kind of discussion, we have a few ground rules for the group which will be reviewed at the top of every meeting and which boil down to two points: let your words be kind, and let your information be founded in well researched fact.
This month's Real Talk centers black women in STEM, as part of our One Community, One Book theme, as well as Black History Month and Women's History Month.
Black women in STEM face lack of representation, career opportunities, and systematic barriers that discourages their participation, and we will discuss why this matters and ideas for change.
Ages 13-18. No registration required. Email [email protected] for more information.
