There’s no better way to usher in the holiday season than by attending the Maryville College Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 3, at 7:00 pm in the Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theatre. This year’s concert features a remarkable lineup, including the Orchestra at Maryville, conducted by Ace Edewards; the Community Chorus, led by Dwight Dockery; the Maryville College Concert Choir, Off Kilter, and Lassies, conducted by Stacey Murphy Wilner; and the Lads, under the direction of Jenny Anderson.
With the nostalgic theme A Victorian Christmas, the program brings the magic of the season to life with beloved holiday classics like “Sleigh Ride,” “Greensleeves,” and “I Saw Three Ships.” The evening will also feature two captivating choral works: Christmas Day by Gustav Holst and Fantasia on Christmas Carols by Ralph Vaughan Williams, with guest soloist K.C. Armstrong, an acclaimed artist who has performed with renowned ensembles such as The Aspen Festival Orchestra, The Cincinnati Pops, The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and The National Symphony Orchestra.
Stacey Wilner, Director of Choral Activities, reflects on the concert’s unique charm: “A Victorian Christmas concert is truly a special experience, as it captures the spirit of the holiday season through the nostalgia and warmth of 19th-century music. Victorian Christmas music brings together classic carols, melodies, and hymns that generations have cherished. This music often embodies themes of family, community, and seasonal joy, creating a concert experience that feels like a heartwarming trip back to a simpler time.”
General admission is $20, seniors (60 and over) and students (18 and under) are $15.00. Don’t miss this enchanting evening that brings together timeless music, community spirit, and holiday cheer! Maryville students, staff and faculty are free but must obtain a ticket from the CCA Box Office.
