Looking for the perfect way to spend a Memorial Day weekend?
Treat yourself and your loved ones to an unforgettable evening with Scythian and Four Leaf Peat at the Bijou Theatre. You have to catch this live show to understand why The Carmel City Dispatch said of Scythian’s Merlefest performance: “[Scythian gives] no quarter in their quest to entertain and bring a joy to their music that gives it an irony-free, wide open feel of manic possibility. The playing is technically brilliant, but it is the energy that carries the day."
This is your chance to leave your stress and worries at the door and spend the night with two bands with long cultural memories.
Scythian plays roots music from Celtic, Eastern European and Appalachian traditions with thunderous energy, technical prowess, and storytelling songwriting, beckoning crowds into a barn-dance, rock concert experience. Nashville’s Music City Roots says Scythian is “what happens when rock star charisma meets Celtic dervish fiddling.”
The foursome made up of Alexander Fedoryka (Vocals, Fiddle, Mandolin, Harmonica), Danylo Fedoryka (Vocals, Guitar, Accordion), Ethan Dean (Vocals, Upright and Electric Bass, Percussion, Guitar) and Johnny Rees (Vocals, Drums, Percussion) brings various influences together to create a conglomerate which is technically precise and steeped in long-running folk traditions. Scythian’s Celtic-Americana fusion is tailor made to keep a Knoxville crowd entertained and moving.
Opening band Four Leaf Peat is Tennessee’s premier traditional Irish band and has been performing locally and regionally since 2004! Their traditional Irish music ranges from vibrant dance tunes to soulful songs, and Four Leaf Peat’s performances are always marked by a keen sense of the tradition, mixed with just the right amount of influence from the rich musical history of East Tennessee. Four Leaf Peat's unique sound is a result of its members' various musical backgrounds, and their continued passion for traditional Irish music. By taking all of their years of musical training, and building on Irish influences like The Bothy Band, Planxty, Flying Cloud & Silly Wizard, to more modern twists on Traditional music such as Dervish, Open the Door for Three & Lunasa; Four Leaf Peat has built its own brand of Irish music which celebrates the musical bridge that spans the Atlantic.
Funds raised from the concert benefit Knoxville’s Classical Catholic school, the Chesterton Academy.
