Functional Fitness Challenge
Sulzbacher, Northeast Florida’s largest comprehensive services provider for at risk men, women, and children, is looking for people to break a sweat to help strengthen its housing programs. The Functional Fitness Challenge fundraiser is June 6, 2026, at the University of North Florida (UNF}’s RecWell Field.
The event brings together participants of all fitness levels to compete in a series of team-based functional fitness workouts for a fun-filled day of athletic competition that directly supports Sulzbacher’s housing division. Sulzbacher’s housing division serves over 350 men, women, and children daily with safe on-site housing and vital wraparound services that help rebuild their lives and achieve lasting stability. In addition, over 650 individuals and family members are housed in our scattered off site permanent housing programs though HUD and other funders.
The fundraiser comes as Sulzbacher’s Enterprise Village project is underway and the Phase 1 apartments are nearing completion. Located in Northwest Jacksonville, Enterprise Village spans16.8 acres and will feature 100 affordable studio and one-bedroom workforce housing apartments for men. Phase Two of the Enterprise Village project relocates wraparound services from the downtown campus, including a Mayo Health Collaboration and a Goodwill Industries/FSCJ job training facility.
The challenge features an Elite Functional Fitness competitive division, an Open Individual Functional Fitness Challenge and free Family Fitness Challenge half mile fun run. Entry for the three-mile course with 10 work out obstacles is $60 per person.
All participants receive medals, and all paying participants receive summer tank tops. The event also includes a DJ and refreshments.
“The Functional Fitness Challenge is a way to move with purpose to support our work to providing permanent and temporary housing for North Floridians who need it,” said Brian Snow, President of Sulzbacher’s Housing Division. “We are getting creative with the obstacles, so people who love doing this type of fitness events and people new to them alike will have fun.”
The Functional Fitness Challenge is open to individual participants and corporate teams alike. Participants are encouraged to form teams and seek pledges and sponsorships from friends, family, and colleagues in the weeks leading up to the event.
