MEETING DESCRIPTION: During this meeting, we challenge the traditional paradigms of language education, which overly emphasize grammar rules, linguistic accuracy, and academic rigor, often at the expense of genuine communication. Instead, we advocate for a practical, playful, and purpose-driven approach that prioritizes real-world interaction, emotional connection, and personal expression.
MEET THE SPEAKER: Of Breton, French, German, and Yenish heritage, languages have always been a central part of Romain’s identity, even though his parents spoke only one (French—the other family languages fading with his grandparents). Romain spent over 15 years as a language teacher, teaching French, Continental Celtic (Breton), and English across multiple countries and continents, including Rennes (France), Chon Buri and Chiang Rai (Thailand), as well as Berkeley (California, USA).
After returning to his homeland following 15 years abroad, Romain realized that the rigid administrative and academic structures had not only stifled the language itself but also diminished students' enjoyment of learning. As a result, he decided to step away from teaching. Today, Romain works in communication, specializing in online communication in both English and French (still about languages).
