The Prince Hall Masons of Nassau County

Founded in 1775 by Prince Hall, a free Black man in Boston, Prince Hall Freemasonry is the oldest known continuously operating Black organization in the United States. Rooted in principles of community service, leadership, education, and moral development, Prince Hall Masonry has played a vital role in African American history for more than two centuries. In this program, Mike Kegler will explore the origins of Prince Hall Freemasonry and its Masonic history in Nassau County, including the story of Thomas Sterling Delaney—the oldest known Prince Hall Mason in Florida and a voter registrar who lived in the county. The presentation will also examine Prince Hall Masonry’s ties to the U.S. Colored Troops stationed on Amelia Island, shedding light on a powerful and often overlooked chapter of local and national history. Free for museum members; suggested donation of $5 for nonmembers Seating is first-come, first-served. This program is fully wheelchair accessible. Can’t join in person?
