Onizuka Day of Exploration

Unleash your inner scientist, engineer, and explorer at the 9th Annual Onizuka Day of Exploration (ODE) on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at UH West Oahu from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Hosted by Scouting America, Aloha Council, this free, family-friendly event is Hawaii’s premier hands-on STEM experience, packed with interactive exhibits, thrilling challenges, and more than 100 activities and 50+ in-depth workshops designed to inspire learners of all ages. Attendees can test flight simulators, explore a U.S. Coast Guard boat, and marvel at a giant 45-foot inflatable whale—there’s something new to discover at every turn! Carrying forward a legacy that began in 1911 as the Makahiki, ODE is the longest-running Scouting event in the United States, continuing its mission to inspire Hawaii’s youth to reach for the stars—just as astronaut and Eagle Scout Ellison Onizuka did. “Onizuka Day is an open invitation for families, friends, and the entire community to experience the spirit of Scouting through hands-on discovery,” said Blake Parsons, CEO of Scouting America, Aloha Council. “Whether you’re a Scout or simply curious, this day is about unlocking new interests and inspiring Hawaii’s youth to dream big!” As Hawaii’s largest STEM event, attendees will build, code, and experiment through engaging, real-world applications of science, technology, engineering, and math. Featured attractions include live helicopter landings, a NASA Astronaut Talk, rocket launches, and many other demonstrations that bring STEM to life. Workshop registration is open now, and event details can be found at www.onizukaday.com. While some workshops have limited space and registration is recommended, it is not required – everyone is welcome to come, explore, and join in on the fun. Admission and parking are free, making this an accessible opportunity for students, educators, and families to experience the wonders of STEM.
