Hawaiʻi is the only place in the world where Pacific Golden-Plovers, known as kōlea, live closely among humans, making them ideal subjects for Kōlea Count, a Hawaiʻi Audubon Society citizen science project. Susan Scott’s presentation explores the history of kōlea in Hawaiʻi, their remarkable breeding lives in Alaska, and how public affection has made Kōlea Count a lasting success. Scott is the author or coauthor of 10 books on the natural history of Hawaiʻi and has served as president of the Hawaiʻi Audubon Society since 2022.
The talk will begin at 6 pm, followed by a Q&A.
