In an intimate session with HMH Archivist Kyle Hart, guests explore original pieces from one of the world's largest collections of Hawaiian-language printed material. You'll see firsthand how the written Hawaiian language took root and why the aliʻi embraced literacy so swiftly — gaining real context for the missionaries' 1820 arrival and the cultural exchange that followed. White-glove access and an open Q&A make this a chance to engage directly with the ʻike held in our archives. Plus, the experience extends beyond the archives. It includes a walking tour of the grounds and the traditional hale pili grounds the history in place, while a hands-on turn at the historic printing press — guided by Director of Education Mike Smola — connects you directly to the birthplace of Hawaiian-language printing. The afternoon closes with traditional high tea by award-winning Tea at 1024. All of it is included in a single $150 ticket for this intimate gathering on Saturday, May 30, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Seating is limited, and this is the last event of 2026 - Don't miss it!
