Hawai‘i School for Girls at La Pietra Presents: Once Upon A One More Time

Hawai‘i School for Girls at La Pietra proudly presents "Once Upon a One More Time," the heart-pumping musical featuring the iconic music of Britney Spears. Performances will take place in the Hawai‘i School for Girls gymnasium on Friday, February 27 at 7:00 PM; Saturday, February 28 at 7:00 PM; and Sunday, March 1 at 3:00 PM. Featuring an all-student cast and crew, "Once Upon a One More Time" runs approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes, including one intermission. The show takes audiences on a magical journey of self-discovery, comedy, and music that will keep you dancing long after the curtain closes. Powered by the chart-topping hits of the undisputed Princess of Pop, the story follows a group of fairy tale princesses who set out on a quest to rewrite their stories and redefine “happily ever after.” The musical weaves 23 of Britney Spears’ smash singles—including “Crazy,” “Oops!... I Did It Again,” “Circus,” “Lucky,” and “Toxic”—into what ABC News calls “a big, modern, musical dance party, with Britney’s beating heart at its core.” “Once Upon a One More Time is a modern, feminist jukebox musical featuring songs that all generations love. It’s been fun to watch our 6th-12th graders dance along to the same songs I did when I was their age,” said Ixchel López-Durant, theatre arts teacher and the show’s director and producer. “Our girls are using their time and talent to share a story that teaches us how to create change in the face of injustice, affirms the power of their voices, and celebrates the enduring bond of female friendships.” Rooted in Hawai‘i School for Girls’ mission to educate young women to lead a life of purpose, this production highlights the power of women in the arts through an entirely female cast and crew.
