Mini-Course: Coming-of-Age Films

Look at coming-of-age films through your adult lens. This genre chronicles the fraught and turbulent journey of adolescence, showing how teens and parents sail or stumble down that road. These films gained traction in the 1950s-1960s as Baby Boom teens exerted cultural and economic force. Three of the four films we’ll take up are comedies, to keep things light these winter days. Watch an assigned film on your own each week. Then join University of Hartford Professor Michael Walsh to learn more and discuss. The films are: • The Graduate • Life is Sweet • Moonlight • Lady Bird Mondays, Jan. 12, 19, 26, Feb. 2, 8; 3–4:30 p.m. Sponsored by President’s College Lifelong Learning at the University of Hartford.
