Full Moon Hike

With most hiking areas closing at dusk, generally a hike under the full moon is out of the question. This event will allow for that experience under the guidance of an Interpretive Ranger. The hike will begin with fading daylight allowing for our eyes to adjust. As the sun fades and the moon takes over, nocturnal creatures begin to stir. One may see bats pass overhead, hear an owl, or even spy a racoon or skunk. Discussion will include information about bats and their importance to the ecosystem as well as some fun facts about other night creatures. What to Expect: This hike will cover both meadow and forested areas for approximately 2 miles. Trail surfaces are at times uneven with some elevation changes and may contain tree roots and rocks. There is a port-a-john on site. This event is recommended for ages 10 and up (participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult). What to Bring: Sturdy, closed-toed shoes are highly recommended. Bring water and a snack. Binoculars are optional. Hiking poles can be very helpful. Head lamps are required, but we will have a few to loan out if you do not have one. Red lensed flashlights/headlamps are preferred if using a light. Event Leader Bio: Interpretive Ranger Craig Lehman believes it’s all about connection: connection to each other, connection to community, and connection to nature. He enjoys facilitating outdoor experiences that enhance those connections and create positive change. Animal Policy: Service animals active or in training are welcome. Please leave all pets at home. Refund Policy: If you are unable to attend this event after purchasing a ticket, refund requests must be made at least 48 hours before the event. Cancellation Policy: This event will be held rain or shine, with cancellation for severe weather made at the time of the event. If the Conservancy reschedules the event, attendees will be emailed, and tickets will be automatically moved to the new date. If the Conservancy cancels the event, attendees will be notified via email when possible and refunded. Photo Credit: Kate Prisby
