Magen Inon is an Israeli educator and peace activist, now based in London, whose parents were killed on October 7, 2023. Aziz Abu Sarah is a Palestinian peace activist, social entrepreneur, and conflict resolution expert whose older brother was arrested for throwing stones, held in prison for nearly a year, and died due to internal injuries sustained while being tortured in prison. Together with their families, they have been leading a campaign against revenge and for peace.
In April 2024, Aziz and Magen's brother Maoz recorded a TED Talk ("A Palestinian and an Israeli, Face to Face") that became the platform's third most watched video of the year. The next month, they shared the stage with Pope Francis in front of 13,000 people in Verona, Italy, for an event titled, "Arena of Peace – Justice and Peace Shall Embrace." They helped organize a gathering in Tel Aviv called, "It's Time: The Great Peace Conference," filling an indoor coliseum on July 1. Maoz, Magen, and Aziz have spoken to political leaders and members of civil society throughout the Middle East, Europe, and North and South America, and now these peacemakers are coming to the Mauthe Center.
Magen and Aziz will be in conversation at the Mauthe Center as part of the Shirlyn Miller Lecture in Human Rights and Public Understanding. Through the generosity of her daughter Susan Nuetzel, this series honors the life and work of Shirlyn Miller, well known in the Green Bay community for her many contributions to human flourishing and public understanding.
