Fox Valley Concert Band Spring Concert

On Friday, May 16, 7:30 pm, the Fox Valley Concert Band, conducted by Dr. Marc Sackman, will present its Spring concert in Perry Hall on the UW Oshkosh - Fox Cities campus in Menasha. The concert is free and open to the public. This will be a special night as while the band will continue as an independent group, because the UWO-Fox Cities is closing this will be our final concert as part of the University of Wisconsin. Much of the program has been chosen with this in mind. Our concert will open with the first piece the band played in the new theater, Washinton Post March (John Philip Sousa) and will be conducted by Professor Emeritus and founding director of the band David Jordahl. In October 2023, the campus lost its leader, Dr. Martin Rudd. In his memory, and that of the campus, the band will play Nimrod by Edward Elgar. Appleton native Theresa Martin is an internationally known composer, and former band member. This evening the band will perform her work Dark Life of the Night Girl. UW Fox alumnus Adam Hatton will be the drum soloist in Robert Smith’s Swing. Rounding out the program will be Carl von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto in Eb (first movement), with our concert mistress Kaylan Lenhardt as soloist. Finally, the band continues its season-long exploration of the music of George Gershwin with Selections form Porgy and Bess.
