Description: This beginner class introduces you to the basics of spinning using a spinning wheel. To start, you will learn about the different types of spinning wheels and their components as well as basic spinning wheel maintenance and how a spinning wheel works. We then move on to exploring how to treadle and working with twist and tension. Students will have time within this class to spin a yarn single and learn how to troubleshoot problems that may occur while spinning. All necessary supplies and equipment are provided. This class is an excellent opportunity to try out a spinning wheel to see if spinning yarn is your next fiber art!
Drop Spindle Spinning

Description: Perfect for beginners, this class explores the basics of spinning using a drop spindle. Instruction will cover many topics, including understanding your equipment, starting with and without a leader string, different fiber types and preparations, the park and draft method and how to navigate twist. Students will have time within this class to spin a yarn single and learn how to troubleshoot problems that may occur while spinning. All necessary supplies and equipment are provided. This is an excellent and inexpensive way to try out the art of spinning!

Description: Introduction to Multi Harness Loom Weaving. Learning by weaving fabric on a loom. You will weave a twill structure sampler on a 4 harness table loom and take home your work. Learn how warp & weft intersect to make this sturdy fabric.
Tablet Weaving
9-10:30 Jocelyn S – 4 students
Description: Card (also known as tablet) weaving is one of the oldest forms of weaving and has been done around the world for centuries. Often used to create narrow bands, card weaving can also be done to create wide fabrics. It can produce simple to complex designs. In this class we will make a narrow bookmark with what is known as a threaded-in design.

Description: Weaving on a Frame loom, using different fibers. Learn how to begin and end each yarn piece within and how to take it off the loom when finished.

Description: Rigid heddle looms are a great way to learn to weave. These looms are very versatile, easy to set up and use, and relatively inexpensive. In this class we’ll weave mug rugs using plain weave, learning how to change sheds, keep the side edges even, and hem stitch to secure the ends.
Pin Loom Weaving

Description: Weaving on a hand held loom is a satisfying and uncomplicated method of weaving on a small scale. Pin looms come in many shapes and sizes and are a fun way to experiment with colors and weaves. We will warp a small pin loom and weave a bookmark for you to take home.
Disc BraidingBraiding – Disc/Plait Braiding Around a Core

Description: Using a small foam disc we will use groups of thin yarn and plait around a core to make a strong, flexible braid. You can finish to make a short or long braid with a variety of uses.
Finger Loop BraidingBraiding – Finger Loop Around a Core
1-2:30 Jeanne H – 6 students
Description: Using a loop manipulation technique we will braid around a core using 5 loops to make a square or tubular braid. You can finish the braid to make a bracelet or short strong handle for a purse. After learning this technique you can follow loop braiders online to make more.
Braiding on a Round LoomBraiding – On a Round Loom

Description: Learn a form of braiding with eight different strands on a special disc-shaped loom. The wooden loom is hand-made and for you to keep. The technique is easy to learn and is often taught to children for making friendship bracelets. The finished braid will be strong and decorative and may be turned into such items as a bracelet, a necklace, a keychain, or an eyeglass cord
Ply Split BraidingPly Split Braiding

Description: This is an uncommon fiber technique originally seen in western Indian nomads to make camel-related items. It involves using a tool to pass small cords thru each other to create useful things. In this class you will choose colorful cords and use a tool to make a key fob.
