If you're planning on attending a craft beer festival in the near future, let us be the first to tell you that you don't want to go there without a few key tips in mind. While some people enjoy going somewhere and relishing in the vibes, if you're there to enjoy beautiful beer tastings, it's good to have a plan of attack. We're not saying write out war blueprints, but keep in mind a few of these clever tricks and tried and true rules to make the best of your day.

Avoiding Pregaming at ALL Costs

We felt we didn't have to say this, but it just couldn't go unstated. You should absolutely avoid pregaming before the beer festival at all costs. There are plenty of great beers to choose from, and even if you may feel invincible, you're essentially working with limited space. The more alcohol you consume before the festival, the less you can drink during the beer fest. You can avoid that simply by not drinking beforehand.

Stay Hydrated

What you should consume a lot of is water. Drinking water is the best way to make it through the day and maximize your body. Don't be afraid to down a few bottles of water, but not so much that you're in the bathroom every 15 minutes. If you catch yourself drinking and can't remember the last time water went down your throat, it's probably time to chug a couple of ounces.

Skip the Diet

Ignore your diet for once, and have a little fun! No, seriously, you shouldn't skip a meal on this day or be prepared for an early bedtime. We're not advocating that you become a 4,000-calorie workhorse, but you won't last long at a beer festival eating leftovers from dinner two nights ago. Eating beforehand is recommended, but you can also find great foods and snacks at the festival set. Just don't expect to be able to bring in food unless you think of some clever solutions (pretzel necklace, anyone?).

Come In With a Plan

As we said, there's nothing wrong with just going to enjoy the vibes of a beer festival. The craft brewers are amazing, the ambiance is spectacular, and the watering stations are great places to meet some new drinking buddies. That being said, some festivals will have a map of the locations of craft breweries, allowing you to designate areas you want to go to. Plan on getting your favorite drinks, and then relax and explore the other alternatives. Or switch it up and start with options you never had before, finishing the night with trusted choices. Either way, the last thing you want to do is be confused as your favorite drinks run down.

Get Home Safe!

As fun as breweries are, you can't sleep over at a stand. Decide beforehand how you and your friends will get home, and don't forget to appoint a designated driver. Most beer lovers know the importance of safety already, but it's much harder to decide how to get home when everyone's had more than a couple of drinks. Instead of waiting until the last minute, plan your transportation accordingly and get home safe!

Don't Settle For What You Already Know

It's okay to go into things with a specific beer on your mind or a category that you can't wait to enjoy once again. But what fun is drinking the same thing you and your friends drink on a random Wednesday night? Push your taste buds to the limit with new tastings you may not have considered before.

Pick One You'll Enjoy

Choosing from all those options can get overwhelming, especially if you're an avid beer consumer. But with all those options come a few specialized events that may not appeal to you. Part of a good festival is the live shows and beer events you can explore. And let's face it, not every event will have the best-tasting beer. Follow these tips and answer some of these questions to help determine which beer festival is right for you.
