A Taste of Southwest: A Benefit for Matrix Theatre Company

Join Matrix Theatre Company for an unforgettable evening celebrating the vibrant culture, creativity, and resilience of Southwest Detroit. On Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 5:30–7:30 PM, guests are invited to gather at Kintsugi Village (2020 14th Street, Detroit) for A Taste of Southwest Detroit—a lively benefit in support of Matrix’s transformative arts programming. Throughout the evening, guests will enjoy a curated selection of delicious hors d’oeuvres from local eateries, refreshing beverages, and opportunities to connect with artists, community members, and supporters who believe in the power of theatre to inspire change. This special event aims to raise $30,000 to sustain and expand Matrix Theatre Company’s youth education and community-based arts programs. Since its founding in 1991, Matrix has been a cornerstone of community-conscious theatre, empowering hundreds of young people each year through its School of Theatre. Through creative expression, students build confidence, find their voices, and develop lifelong skills both onstage and off. As Matrix celebrates its 35th anniversary, the organization is growing its impact in exciting ways. Expanded programming now includes three weeks of Summer Camp, new Winter and Spring Break Camps, and hands-on learning opportunities like the popular Build-A-Play program and a new 10-week Prop and Puppet Building class. Additional offerings such as community-devised productions, the Matrix Poetry Residency, and powerful performances like Women You Oughta Know continue to uplift diverse voices and stories from the community. Be part of an evening that honors the past, celebrates the present, and invests in the future of Detroit’s young artists.
