This special event will celebrate the collection of artifacts such as models, tools, and cordage all curated by Dr. Richard Stamps, an esteemed archeologist who conducted fieldwork on Orchid Island in the mid-1970s. Experiences during this afternoon of discovery and cultural connection include: 🎉 Ribbon Cutting Ceremony: Celebrate the launch of this new Institute collection with an official ribbon cutting. 🎤 Keynote Presentation: Hear firsthand from Dr. Stamps as he shares insights from his time on Orchid Island and explores the traditions of the Tao people. 🇹🇼 Cultural Activities: Participate in hands-on experiences led by local organizations, including the Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning, Michigan Chinese Educators Association, and the Formosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors. 🐍 Zodiac Creations: Craft your own headpiece in celebration of the Year of the Snake. 🐻 Bear Appreciation: Honor the—unofficial—national animal of Taiwan, the Formosan black bear, with sticker tattoos. 🗺️ Geographic Exploration: Visualize the landscape and geographic features of Taiwan through a 3D map. 🌸 Indigenous Costumes: Be introduced to the culture of Taiwan through traditional outfits and clothes. ✨ And much more! Experience a rare opportunity to explore an extraordinary collection, celebrate diverse cultures, and learn about histories from across the globe. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an anthropology buff, or simply a curious mind, this event will deepen your appreciation for the world around you and its rich heritage. Orchid Island Exploration activities are FREE with purchase of general admission. Take a journey into the past and present of Orchid Island!
