Shrine Centennial Mass

Come celebrate 100 years of faith. When Bishop Michael Gallagher commissioned the establishment of the Shrine of the Little Flower in 1925, Royal Oak was a developing city. The crossroads of 12 Mile and Woodward Avenue were muddy ruts, with the Grand Trunk railroad track running just 100 feet from what would be the front door of the church. The parish had 28 families who pledged their membership to the parish. Shrine has grown to be one of the largest parishes in the Archdiocese of Detroit. The Basilica is a stop for pilgrims seeking prayer and respite. The parish educates her children through the Shrine Catholic Schools and Religious Formation, and our Order for Catholic Initiation for Adult draws those seeking entrance into the Catholic faith. But above all, we are a family of faith, hope, and love. As our patroness, St. Thérèse of Lisieux, once said, “When I die, I will send down a shower of roses from the heavens, I will spend my heaven by doing good on earth.” We look forward to the next 100 years!
