Street Survival is a national community service program under a 501(c)3 foundation, with schools taught locally by volunteers who are nationally certified. This is a follow-on course for those who have already had driver's education, to upgrade driver skills beyond the very basics that teens receive on the path to a driver's license. Street Survival students drive their usual car, not a school fleet car, to develop car handling skills and awareness of conditions in low-traction situations. Instructors are in each car with the student on a closed course. Water and liquid soap are used to simulate snow/ice or dirt/gravel situations where drivers can easily lose control. Students learn via a variety of driving exercises across the day, plus receive classroom instruction and also demonstrations involving airbag detonation and visibility from a semi-truck cab. Breakfast and lunch are included for participants. Students must register by April 24 for the event. Walk-ins are not accepted.
