Evergreen Chamber Orchestra - Prelude to Spring Concert (Denver)

Our Prelude to Spring Concert opens with Jacques Offenbach's high-spirited Overture to "Orpheus in the Underworld," a witty and satirical romp featuring the now infamous “Can-Can.” Following this, the Colorado Symphony’s Assistant Principal Bass Nicholas Recuber steps into the spotlight for the WORLD-PREMIERE performance of William Hill's captivating Fantasy for Double Bass, Electric Bass and Orchestra, a rare and stunning showcase for an underutilized instrument for solo roles. The evening concludes with Antonín Dvořák's powerful and turbulent Symphony No. 7, a work of profound struggle and defiant heroism that culminates in a glorious, life-affirming finale. This work is widely regarded as one of the greatest works in the symphonic repertoire, with musicologist Donald Tovey saying "along with the four Brahms symphonies and Schubert's Ninth, it is among the greatest and purest examples in this art-form since Beethoven".
