DEGENERATES: a current reaction by EDGE Member Artists

Edge Gallery’s annual group exhibition, Degenerates, is both timely and provocative. It references the infamous 1937 exhibition in Nazi Germany designed to humiliate and discredit artists—particularly those creating abstract works, art exposing the horrors of war and other themes and cutting edge styles. That event sought to vilify artistic voices that challenged the regime’s ideology. As a collective of artists collaboratively running the Edge Art Gallery, our member artists are diverse in our practices and perspectives. This is the gallery’s regular annual exhibition showcasing our individual works, without a unifying theme necessarily. However, some members have made statements reflecting on the historical significance of the 1937 Degenerate Art Exhibition as it applies to their art. The exhibition will also include historical photographs, video and other reference material about the 1937 Degenerate Art Exhibition. Edge Gallery presents this exhibition to affirm the enduring value of creative freedom and to resist attempts to marginalize or vilify artistic voices. EDGE Gallery 6501 W. Colfax Ave, Lakewood, CO 80214 Gallery Hours: Friday: 6-9pm Saturday & Sunday: 12-5pm Private viewings are available by appointment. Visit www.edgeart.org for more information.
