Kōun ryūsui Japanese Ikebana Flower Demonstration
行雲流水 kōun ryūsui – Drifting Clouds and Flowing Water
We invite you to come and enjoy this Three-Day Celebration of Japanese Ikenobo Flower Arrangements from May 15 to 17 at the Boulder Main Library, Canyon Gallery. The Japanese yojijukugo (idiom) Kōun ryūsui teaches us to move effortlessly like a cloud to avoid chaos and strife, and develop an appreciation for the flowing, natural movement of life, like water. See the application of Kōun ryūsui in over 50 beautiful ikebana creations that will highlight the season and inspire you in the Canyon Gallery. Also featured on display will be Edo Period Scrolls (kakejiku), modern Katazome, and other art works from Japan.
Join us on Saturday May 16 at 1:00 pm for a Special Grand Ikenobo Demonstration by Professor Extraordinaire Shunso Kobayashi from the Ikenobo Institute in Kyoto, Japan. Professor Kobyashi, one of the top professors in all of Japan, will make eight Ikenobo arrangement on stage in the Canyon Theatre with Japanese interpreters to answer your questions. Don't miss this one time only opportunity in the US.
Join us on Sunday May 17 at 1:00 PM for an Ikenobo Ikebana arrangement demonstration, followed by a Chanoyu Japanese Tea Ceremony Demonstration and tasting in the Canyon Theatre.
Hours: Friday May 15, 9 to 5 pm, Saturday May 16, 10 to 5 pm, Sunday May 17, 12 to 5 pm. Exhibition in the Boulder Main Library Canyon Gallery, Demonstrations in the Canyon Theatre.
