Roots and Routes

Roots and Routes delves into the intertwined narratives of identity, place, and history through the lens of two distinct yet interconnected artistic practices. Featuring the works of Sudeep Kumar and Kathryn Humphrey, the exhibition invites viewers on a journey through evolving landscapes and the echoes of ancestral heritage. In Under Construction, Sudeep Kumar captures the dynamic transformation of Plano, Texas and surrounding areas, through vibrant watercolors and drawings. His work turns often-overlooked urban spaces—construction sites, scaffolds, and industrial zones—into compelling meditations on growth and connection. Each painting reflects the human energy woven into the fabric of urban life, urging us to rediscover the beauty in our everyday surroundings. With an artistic process rooted in spontaneity and mindfulness, Kumar’s work bridges the external world with our inner reflections. Kathryn Humphrey’s Ghost Tribe takes us on a different journey, one that reaches deep into humanity’s collective past. Using upcycled materials and a stream-of-consciousness approach, her mixed media series reimagines tribal masks as contemporary artifacts, pulsating with raw, primal energy. These masks, stripped to their essence yet brimming with spirit, transcend time and culture to celebrate humanity’s shared soul. Humphrey’s work reminds us that, despite our varied histories, we are bound by universal roots, a unity echoed in the primal rituals of our ancestors. Together, Roots and Routes explores how identity is shaped by both the places we inhabit and the legacies we carry. From the bustling energy of urban growth to the timeless resonance of ancient traditions, this exhibition is a celebration of humanity’s journey—one that navigates the paths we create and the roots that anchor us.
