The Benicia – Vallejo American branch of the Association of University Women (AAUW), will host a dinner and program at 6 pm Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the Union Hotel, 401 1st Street in Benicia. Representatives from the Benicia Police department will be the featured speakers at the program providing safety tips to safeguard against online scammers.
The Benicia police have noted that in 2025 identity theft cases exceeded 1.15 million in the US. Additionally in 2025 financial fraud resulted in a loss of $12.5 billion. Data shows that individuals between the ages 30-39 were most targeted for identity theft. Another statistic states that 51% of consumers 19 and younger reported losing money to scams.
The speakers encourage everyone to learn about ways to stay safe online and on digital devices, and to protect against fraud. They suggest that personal information is like money - value it and protect it. The presentation will cover some resources outlining safety tips.
