The smallest city in Contra Costa County, the City of Clayton, attracts thousands of Claytonians and visitors alike as it pulls out all the stops for its annual 4th of July parade. Clayton’s parade theme this year is “Happy 250th Birthday America.”
The parade Grand Marshal is none other than Clayton’s own 102-year-old, WWII Pearl Harbor Survivor, Earl “Chuck” Kohler.
The morning begins with a pancake breakfast, sponsored by the Clayton Valley/Concord Sunrise Rotary, from 7 to 10 am, at Endeavor Hall, downtown Clayton. Adults are $10 and Kids 10 and under are $7. At 10 am, the City’s kicks off the unique “Kiddie Parade” at the corner Oak and Main Street, and it’s come one and come all. No registration is necessary for the kiddie parade, and all types of transportation are welcome: feet, scooters, bicycles and more!
Immediately thereafter, the official parade beings with the raising of the American flag by the Color Guard from VFW Post 1525, the National Anthem, performed by Clayton’s own Mechele Fong, and emceed by former Clayton Mayor, CW Wolfe.
There will also be a special photo opportunity this year at the Grove Park gazebo.
So come out in your red, white, and blue and celebrate America’s 250th birthday with the City of Clayton.
If you would like to learn more about the parade, reserve a spot in the parade to participate or volunteer to help us that morning, please visit the City’s website at: https://claytonca.gov/our-city/annual-events/4th-of-july-parade/.
