Dental health practices to improve overall wellness is the topic of discussion for the Carquinez Village Speaker Series to be held at 10:30 am Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the Benicia Public Library, 150 East L St. in Benicia.
Clara Mendez, a dentist with Carquinez Dental Group in Benicia, will address the mystery of cavities. She will also describe new science that can stop them forever.
Many people follow a healthy diet and maintain good oral hygiene yet still get cavities. The truth is that several factors contribute to tooth decay, not just candy and poor brushing habits, Mendez said. She noted that these factors can change as people age. Mendez will look for the biochemical and functional reasons an individual may be experiencing problems. She will evaluate everything from diet, hygiene, saliva environment, to a person’s bite/occlusion, mastication muscles and jaw.
Mendez graduated from Loma Linda (CA) School of Dentistry, in 2015. She has been an associate general dentist for more than 8 years. She is an active member of the California Dental Association and the American Dental Association and its FACE (Foundation for Advanced Continuing Education).
The program is free and open to the public. A question and answer session will follow the presentation. Decaf coffee and doughnuts will be provided.
The Library’s Dona Benicia room has an Assistive Listening System. To get access to this system the city must be contacted in advance. Hearing access can be provided by contacting Suzanne Thorson at 707-746-4382 or by email at adacoordinator@ci.benicia.ca.us .
The mission of the Carquinez Village is to help Benicia and Vallejo seniors to stay in their homes and to enrich their lives through connecting, supporting, and inspiring them.
